1. What was the last song that stuck in your brain and wouldn’t go away?
2. What’s something that sticks around long after you wish it would leave?
3. To what use did you put your last sticky note?
4. When did you last have Pixy Stix?
5. What is something you are a stickler for?
1. This one I'm blaming Allan for: "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", from the very end of Life of Brian. Which we watched... a WEEK ago :-P Fortunately, I got my revenge-- you know how the current Target commercials feature "Hello Hello" by the Beatles? I've been singing THAT all week, and now it's stuck in Allan's head :-D
2. Bugs! They multiply! Um, really, the only thing that comes to mind right now is stains-- either in clothing or in the kitchen. Water stains are the worst, but God bless the inventor of the chemical solution from which products like Lime-Away and CLR are based :-)
3. I can't quite remember-- either a note left for Allan on his desk when he was away while I dropped by, or a reminder note atop Todd's school paperwork, to remind me to throw in a copy of his birth certificate.
4. Mmmmm.... Pixy Stix! Way too long. Probably 2 Halloweens ago? I love Pixy Stix. I know they are nothing but sugar and some color, but that's the best kind of candy for me-- pure sugar. I used to munch on sugar cubes at Amgen before they replaced them with canisters of pourable, granular sugar. I still enjoy eating a packet of sugar in restaurants for "dessert". And my favorite bona fide candies consist of those which are made from little more than sugar and color-- Smarties (aka Rockets for the Canadians/Brits(?)), "chalk" candy, Fun Dips, Runts, etc...
5. LOL-- let's see if I can answer this question without using the words "Excel" or "spreadsheet" ;-) I'm sure that's the answer that instantly came to mind for most of you :-P I'm a bit of a stickler for hand-washing. I'm mildly obsessive about this. If I go more than a few hours without washing my hands, they start feeling sticky and grimy, which gives me the heebie jeebies. I'm also a stickler for making sure Todd washes his hands frequently, but that's mostly because he's a toddler and, well, toddlers always make messes and put things in their mouths (yeccchh).
By the way, I just realized how incongruous it sounds to refer to Todd as a toddler when he's starting kindergarten in a week, which makes me wonder-- how old is "too old" to be considered a toddler anymore?
So that's my Friday Five. How about you?
1. What was the last song that stuck in your brain and wouldn’t go away?
ReplyDeleteThat stupid "oompa loompa" song from Willy Wonka, LOL
2. What’s something that sticks around long after you wish it would leave?
Unwanted houseguests--I won't name names, but you can probably figure it out, LOL
3. To what use did you put your last sticky note?
I honestly don't even remember the last time I used a sticky note. I just use a pad of paper when I leave someone a note at work.
4. When did you last have Pixy Stix?
Wow--I never have had one. Amazing, isn't it?
5. What is something you are a stickler for?
Punctuality. I spend so much time waiting for people, and then I get impatient and start pacing around in my living room looking out the front window, LOL...and that's just with friends. I always make it a point to get to work 5 minutes early, so why does 80 percent of the rest of Martins' workers feel it's perfectly OK for them to come tromping in 10-20 minutes late? Oh yeah, because NO ONE is ever disciplined for it, that's why! In a nutshell, I hate lateness, LOL

ReplyDeleteWilly Wonka-- another heebie-jeebie-inducing character ;-)
My natural reaction to question 2 was "unwanted houseguests", but since Allan and I rarely entertain, it doesn't apply to us.
I hear you on punctuality. The ONLY thing I find acceptable to be "fashionably late" for is a party or some sort of informal get-together at someone's private home. The kind where I know that:
a) there won't be anyone *waiting* on us if we're not on time and
b) the hosts will be running around last minute, finishing stuff up before guests arrive... and could use an extra 10 minutes :-)
Last Friday? Dinner+movie at our new pad? Our guests were *thankfully!* about 15 minutes late, and even then we STILL weren't quite ready by the time they arrived, LOL.
But yeah-- for events where it's IMPORTANT to arrive on time, I feel as you do.
1. A song that my friend wrote. I'd been listening to it over and over so it's no surprise that it got stuck.
ReplyDelete2. Winter! (says the Canadian)
3. I believe it was a shopping list for when I went to the drug store.
4. I can't remember, not since I was a teen at least. Definitely not something I would buy.
5. Punctuality would be my first answer too! I hate being late and it really irritates me when others are too (except in the situations you described). Specifically, latecomers to class bug me. I know things happen and I've certainly been late plenty of times, but some people are chronically late and many classrooms I seem to end up in make it SO distracting for people to come in after the prof has gotten underway. I guess this leads me to another thing I'm a bit of a stickler for -- turning off cellphones in class! And at movies, work, what have you. So annoying.
In regards to Todd's toddler status, I think he's just a kid now. Well... not just anything. You know what I mean!

ReplyDeleteHeh. I guess the "Todd-ler" wordplay can't be used anymore. Well, it was fun while it lasted :)
Ugh, I hate it when people don't even TRY to be unobtrusive when they arrive late/leave early. Like when they enter/exit and then just let the door slam shut. Cell phones are a big pain, too-- I can understand a possible emergency, but shoot, that's what VIBRATE mode is for.
I had a professor who, if he heard a phone ring in class, used to march right down the aisle, grab the culprit's phone, and ANSWER it! He was definitely the type who wouldn't take any guff from students!

ReplyDeleteHehehe, "winter" is agreed upon by the Michigander as well. :~)
UGH--I guess there are too many things out there that we can be sticklers for--because I HATE those damn cell phones too! Put it on vibrate when you are in a public place, turn your ringer off, something! And don't answer the effin thing when you are in a crowded movie theater or talking to a customer service employee when you are in line at a place such as say, a grocery store or restaurant!
I was perpetually 5 minutes late to my first class when I was in college, but it didn't matter because the prof usually didn't show up til 10 or 15 after, LOL.

ReplyDeleteI think the three of us would share a lot of the same peeves.
I've been addicted to the LJ customer suck communities, and the cell-phone-during-checkout peeve comes up a LOT. There was one great story about a woman committing that infraction, and when she told the person on the other end that she was checking out at the grocery store, the person HUNG UP on her! That was awesome!
