( I have to admit, I miss the built-in "mood" feature of Myspace, but at the same time, enjoy the flexibility of having to hand-write it in when I feel like broadcasting it. When was the last time you could simultaneously pick two moods from the Myspace drop-down menu? ;-) Hehehe... )
So, we're all moved in. And moved out of the old apartment. For an extra $1000/month in rent plus utilities, we get to enjoy newer facilities (built in 2003 vs. built in the 1950s) with almost twice the square footage (less than 400 sq. ft versus 750 sq ft). We're loving our HUGE kitchen with its Corian countertops, a walk-in closet, close proximity to work, a separate dining area where we can actually put a table and chairs, a storage "closet" out on our balcony (where the water heater sits) that has washer/dryer hookups, and living on the second floor, i.e. no more lead-footed, noisy upstairs neighbors to contend with!!
Saturday the movers moved all the furniture, and Sunday we grabbed the last remaining items from the old place, as well as cleaned it. For the first time, I was grateful that our place was so small. Although I guess scrubbing appliances is never fun, no matter how large or small the kitchen. Needless to say, my current mood is rather apt-- stiff, sore, achy and tired! But we enjoyed a good night's sleep last night and had a brisk, refreshing walk to work this morning. I could definitely get used to this ;-)
I plan on taking some pictures of the new place once we get everything put away. (Yeah, yeah, I know-- I keep meaning to everytime we move, but 4 moves later I still haven't done it... maybe this time will be different ;-) )
In the meantime, here's a snapshot of our floor plan, created by floorplanner.com, a handy site for your furniture arrangement needs (click on it for a larger image). Note my favorite part of it: a little reading nook in the bedroom-- sanctuary! :-)

Ahhh... home sweet home :-)
Looks great and Allan should enjoy all the food preparation area. Enjoy !!

ReplyDeleteHe definitely does. I enjoy being able to putter around in the kitchen simultaneously! So much room to move around in!
I also enjoy being able to have a table to sit at and eat... y'know, like normal human beings do ;-)

ReplyDeleteAlso looks like you can eat at the counter or serve buffet style at parties. Do you have an automatic Dishwasher?
What does the little man think about moving or does he know?
@4714382111881755379.0
ReplyDeleteYes! Allan wants to get barstools later on, it gives him fond memories of whhen he was growing up.
We do have an automatic dishwasher, but haven't used it yet. We don't generate enough dirty dishes to fill it up :-)
As for little man, he's looking forward to seeing the new place (Oma told him about it). We're bringing him up this weekend, I can't wait to see what his reaction will be!

ReplyDeleteOh, and I wanted to share a little anecdote about when Todd first saw the apartments, a few months ago:
It was a Saturday, and Allan was at work. I took Todd to the leasing office and we got a tour of the model apartment. He seemed to like it okay. Then we got into the car and drove to the office to see Daddy. We had barely been on the road a minute when I announced (as I pulled into the parking lot) that we were here.
Todd's reaction?
"WOW! It's so close!!"
I'm anxiously awaiting Todd's reaction.
ReplyDeleteSo, is it Allan that will be banished to the computer workstation in the kitchen?
ReplyDeleteWhat a weird place to have it!
@2691491629315716619.0
ReplyDeleteHehe, we make do with whatever space we can get.
Besides, don't YOU have your computer desk in what's supposed to be your dining room? ;-)
Actually, the desktop computer is on the desk in the living room, by the TV. He'd use either that, or sit on the futon sofa with his laptop.
The desk in the dining room holds the printer (keeps the ugly thing out of sight!) and will be used by either me (if I'm not in the bedroom or futon with my laptop) or me and Todd when he does his homework after school.
I'm still getting used to the whole layout, myself!
Oooh I like your fancy floor plan! That's neat. Are you getting much use out of the balcony? I've always thought I'd like one -- we don't get much chance to sit outside at my current house. Nice to know that the move has been successful and you're enjoying the new place!
ReplyDelete@4230805596013534626.0
ReplyDeleteWe always like to map out our floor plan before we actually move. In the past, we used graph paper (with pencil and LOTS of erasing), but this time I was lucky to find the floorplanner.com website.
As for the balcony-- we haven't gotten any use out of it yet, but we might on weekends, when we're actually home during the day, when it's warm enough to sit outside.
At our 3 previous places, we used the balcony/patio for storage, but this time we can stash those unsightly plastic bins into the water heater "closet".
Next challenge? Finding a washer and dryer that will fit in there AND still leave room for the storage bins!
Have you thought of getting a washer and dryer that stack one on top of the other one. They have some pretty nice ones now.
ReplyDeleteAlso you mentioned looking for some bar stools. Ask Allan if he remembers his Goma and Pa's two that they had. I have had new blue and white seats put on them. Let us know if you want them.
@8013255418075768362.0
ReplyDeleteYup, we've been examining all our washer/dryer options, including stackables. I prefer a front-load washers, but those can get pricey (either by themselves or as part of a front-loading stackable)! Plus there's no discount appliance/furniture warehouses here in SB, like there are in abundance in LA. Sears and K-Mart is about it. So we're definitely picking through Craigslist with a fine-tooth comb!
As for the stools, hmmm-- any chance you've got any measurements and photos handy? :-)
Maybe tomorrow I'll feel wel enough to take the photos and measurements.

ReplyDeleteThanks-- and no rush! We appreciate it :)

ReplyDeleteHe was both excited and impressed :-) Here's the blog post detailing his reaction:
