While driving to work yesterday morning, I heard a story on the radio about a gruesome murder that took place in the apartment complex right next door to where I work. Today provided updates in the story:

Basically, on Sunday night, a man hacked at a woman (thought to be his girlfriend) and her 6-year-old son with a meat cleaver, killing the boy and severely injuring the woman, who also happened to be an employee in the marketing department of my company.
Scary enough that it happened so close to work, and to someone who works in the same company as I do. Scarier yet that this happened in Thousand Oaks, one of the Top 10 safest small cities in the entire COUNTRY.
So tragic, so senseless, especially when thinking about that sweet, innocent little boy. When I got home last night, I made sure to scoop up my little man when he greeted me at the door, and gave him an extra big squeeze.
