So it seems that most white folks have this problem of looking blindingly pasty white when their skin has zero contact with the sun. Jenna's blogged about it, and I've seen the ensuing comments from my Caucasian friends, commiserating with her.
Allan, of course, is no exception. His family and I have been taking great glee in poking fun at his farmer's tan. I shield my eyes and don sunglasses everytime he gets ready for a shower.
So a couple weekends ago he found a tank top that he could wear while walking the mile to school everyday, get some sun onto his shoulders and arms, at least. Problem was-- the only tank top in his size was a nice bright orange color.
Yes, he looks like a traffic cone.
Yesterday while walking to school, a young college girl drove past him, slowed down, poked her head out the window, and yelled "Love the orange!" before rolling the window back up and driving off.
You can just imagine how hard Helly was laughing upon hearing this little anecdote. And yes, I'm being my usual predictable self and sharing this story for all the world to see and join me in having a good laugh at Allan's expense :-D

Photo Gallery Name Suggestions
Allan's enjoying a new language and technology that's enabling him to create our own photo gallery software-- it will combine all the features I like best, from various programs such as LinPHA, Gallery and iPhoto.
His current name for the program is PhotoX, which looks just like it should be pronounced ("foto ex") but upon second glance, it looks like it should rhyme with "botox" instead :-P Apparently that's the intended effect, I don't know if that's worse than if the effect was unintentional :-P
As you can tell-- "photox" has to go, Allan has been rendered open to suggestions :-D So... let 'em roll! What should this photo gallery program be called?

One Whole Year
It was exactly one year ago today that I signed up on Myspace. Has it really been that long? Hard to believe. And though it took me a while to actually start USING this account, I'm glad I did, for I haven't looked back since. It's my "home away from home" when I'm not spending time on Grab, it makes a nice refuge from the dramas and storms that brew on the "other site", and best of all-- I have the freedom to write whatever I want, to my heart's content, without worrying about breaking any sorts of content rules.
So here's to a whole year on the dreaded site that took some teeth-pulling to obtain converts. Here's to a whole year on the site that enabled me, in more ways than one, to be where I am now, and have the friends I currently do. I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world...

I'm getting predictable
This morning I had a good laugh at Allan's girly antics-- after throwing Todd's discarded shirt at him, it landed on his head, causing him to all but flail limbs in an effort to get it off, "tsk"ing at me because it was going to ruin his freshly combed hair. Gawd, even *I* don't get that girly!
But that story in and of itself wasn't as funny as his ensuing comment:
"You're going to blog about this, aren't you!?"
Well sheesh-- am I THAT predictable?? I guess I must be, since you're sitting here reading this :-D
But come on-- you try being married to Mr. Knight for a while-- you'll quickly see that blogging funny antics at his expense can be a good survival mechanism :-P

Messages From the Future
It always amuses me to get a text message from friends who live in a timezone that's ahead of mine-- especially my friends in the UK. Because on my phone, the timestamp shows up not as the time *I* received the message, but as their local time of sending it!
It gets even funnier when I get a message after 4:00pm my time, since it's after midnight in the UK-- and guess what-- a brand new day, namely, tomorrow!
Yes, I know, I am easily amused. If you're reading this, you should know me well enough to not be surprised :-P

Alrighty then!
| Your Passion is Yellow |
You possess a complex sex drive and are very adaptable. Of all the colors, you are the most likely to be bisexual. While you the most passionate, you are very open minded. |
Ummm... yeah... complex? I dunno, I'm pretty simple-- I know what I like :-)
Open-minded? Yeah, I suppose that's true.
Adaptable and bisexual? Hmm, hey Allan-- maybe there's more to these constant assertions that Ingrid and I are girlfriends, eh? ;-)

Neighborly Rants
The great thing about living in on-campus family student housing is that the rent is super-cheap compared to the surrounding area in Santa Barbara. The downfall is that with this low rent comes low-quality construction. Not only are the buildings old, but the walls and floors are paper-thin, and the windows provide little insulation against both cold and noise.
This was made abundantly clear to me this past weekend. We live in 2-story apartment complexes, and as luck would have it, occupy a ground floor apartment. Our upstairs neighbors can be heard walking overhead-- sometimes it sounds like a herd of elephants stampeding. The floor (i.e. our ceiling) creaks when they walk in certain corners of the living room. And the walls are so thin I can hear, with crystal clarity, when they pee in the toilet and flush it!
A lot of this doesn't really bother me-- they can't help that the building is so cheaply constructed that the only way to NOT make a sound is to tiptoe everywhere and whisper.
What DOES bother me, however, is when they take their "stomping" into the late night hours. Surely they must realize that when you walk normally (i.e. exerting extra pressure on your heel first as you take a step), the floor is going to echo with the thud. Would it hurt to tread a little more carefully late at night, or very early in the morning? Worse yet-- they stay up late and wake up early, which means we're forced to pretty much the same schedule!
Okay, even that I can attribute to ignorance on their part. But here's the kicker: yesterday night I tried to go to sleep at around midnight, since I had to get up early the next morning to go to work. What should keep me up, but the sound of the upstairs neighbors' television blaring! I tossed and turned for half an hour. I even tried putting earplugs in, but earplugs do absolutely nothing to block out the deep sound of the bass. So I put on my robe and shoes, and trudged upstairs to knock on their door. The guy answered. I asked them to turn down the TV, as I could hear it and it was keeping me up. He said okay, and as he shut the door and I headed back down the stairs, I heard the unmistakable sound of the girl laughing her ass off. It was a derisive laugh with the distinct tone of "What the fuck is she on about? Screw her", which pissed me off. When I got back to my own apartment, I realized I was right-- the volume had not changed. Luckily they turned off the TV and headed to bed about 15 minutes later, so I wasn't tortured for much longer.
I just have a hard time understanding how people can be so inconsiderate. Like I said, I can give them the benefit of the doubt that they might not realize they're disturbing us. But when I actually TELL them that it's bothering me, I find it utterly discourteous and disrespectful to continue. I just don't get it. Do they honestly think I'm making a big deal out of nothing, just because THEY don't deem the TV too loud?? How selfish.
Thanks to my neighbors, I didn't get to sleep until an hour after I intended to, and didn't get into work early like I had planned. Next time it happens, I'm sending Allan upstairs to deal with them.
There are, after all, merits to having a 6'8" husband :-D
