Strippers: Male or Female?

I've gotten some interesting feedback on my previous post, in which I announce my upcoming collection of sex-related posts. If you haven't stopped by to offer your ideas and suggestions, please do!

Some of my entries will be re-posts of stuff I've written before-- such as this one.

To start it off, I thought I'd begin with a fairly tame (comparatively speaking!) topic: strippers. Specifically, in the male form vs female form sense. This old cartoon from the "Luann" comic strip reflects the post quite nicely:

A long time ago, my friend Lisa blogged about strippers and how she'd prefer to see a female stripper rather than a male stripper. She wanted to know if that made her weird. I thought about it, and I decided that no, she isn't weird and that yes, I agree with her way of thinking.

Now, don't get me wrong-- I can appreciate some good male eye candy as much as the next red-blooded heterosexual female. But when it comes to the fluid motion of a writhing stripper, the female form has a certain elegance that no man can rival. I mean, a woman has all these curves in all the right places, which make her and her dancing easy on the eyes. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and each has unique attributes that can be showcased nicely as she disrobes around the strip pole. A male stripper? Well, he'd better have a six-pack and buns of steel or he isn't going to attract many whistling viewers. (That's not to say that *I* personally am a fan of the muscled, rock-hard body, but the fact is, most women, and hence, most paying customers, are.)

I don't know-- maybe it's the fact that the female body, in all its femininity, is softer and more pleasing to the eyes. Or maybe it's the fact that there's more variety to look at. Maybe this variety allows women to dance in a number of versatile ways and still project sexiness. A man gyrating his hips and tossing his head back in a similar fashion... I dunno, that just sounds silly. It would seem that for a male stripper to project this same smoky sexiness, his movement routine would be more limited than a woman's.

All in all, while I wouldn't be averse to a girls' night out at a male strip club, a trip to a female strip club would suit me just as well.

On a side note-- one of the earlier times that hubby and I were in Las Vegas, we hit a fairly classy strip joint, and one of the women came up to us and offered me-- me! not my husband!-- a lap dance. I politely declined, but in retrospect, maybe I should've taken her up on the offer. Just to see what it entails. Perhaps even learn a few moves of my own. And to be able to tip her nicely for being so sweet and friendly :-)

  1. First off, I love how your comment section says "Welcome back Scot"! ;~)

On to the blog topic. Strippers. Well! Here's an interesting notion, especially coming from me. (I vaguely remember the first time you posted this, and love the Luann comic, I still read Luann today haha.) I have actually been to FEMALE strip shows more than male ones. Coming from a gay man, that's extremely odd, right? Not so. Female strip shows are usually of a slight...HIGHER class than male ones. Unless you're hitting a really sleazy hole in the wall bar, the patrons of female strip shows are extremely well behaved, and the women are gorgeous, just as you said. Now, taking into account the fact that I am a boy who likes boys, I ALSO have a big appreciation for male strippers too--BUT, there are a lot of things I take into account when watching a man strip. He can't be a bulging muscle beast. Instant turn off for me. Honestly, the rock hard 6 pack abs also don't do much for me. I love a man with a mess of black hair on his head. Two or three days worth of stubble. Hair in just the right places, not like he's wearing an angora sweater AFTER he's taken his shirt off. I'm quite picky, LOL. Course, none of that really matters if a young guy comes and shoves his junk in your face after you've had a few drinks. You're putting dollar bills into his underwear with your teeth. :P

But overall, I agree with your post---the female form is more inherently easy on the eyes than that of the male.

And, like any man out there, a great rack is always something that can be appreicated, LOL.

  2. Ditto to Luann love. It is the first one I click on when I go to my Yahoo Comics page every day :-) I liked it so much in high school that I started off my diary entries as "Dear Luann" instead of "Dear Diary".

Every little thing you've described as a turn-off about male strippers is exactly what turns me off, as well. That's part of what I was referring to when I said that women had more variety-- women can look attractive and sexy whether they are an A-cup or a D-cup, whether they are a size 2 or a size 12, whether they are 5'-nothing or 6 feet tall. But there is less room for variety when neither extreme of six-pack nor flabby gut is attractive, neither fur nor completely smooth chest.

I've had a friend once joke that I was really a gay man inside a woman's body. I think he's on to something there, but that's for another blog post ;-)

  3. I think wanting to see women over men is completely cultural. Our ideal of beauty in present day is feminine beauty. It wasn't always so. Going back to Ancient Greece, ideal beauty was masculine.

Also, if you saw a man on stage moving as smoothly and erotically as a woman does, wouldn't you think him to be gay for moving in such a feminine way? I don't think a man could present the same kind of beauty in our society without being considered feminine.

The history major in me wants to point out everything objectively. Personally.. strippers don't do anything for me. Some people get a thrill in pursuing the unobtainable, but it's a turn off to me.

Also, I think patrons of female strip shows are well behaved because.. have you seen the bouncers?? Holy cow! I've seen a friend try to use his hands during a lap dance and the bouncers were on him like condoms on porn stars! Okay.. bad example. ;)

  4. Interesting historical perspective, I do believe you have a point there.

Also, regarding your comment about how "feminine" a man would look, moving as a woman does-- I guess that also goes back to my assertion that there's less variety in what a man can do that would give off a "sexy" vibe without necessarily being "feminine".

A strip show doesn't do it for me, either (unless hubby's performing behind the closed windows of our home ;-) ) but it can be fun to just sit back and watch and admire a beautiful, shapely form. Kind of like enjoying good works of art at a museum.

  5. So, what you're saying is that even though the windows are closed, the doors are open? :~P

  6. *snerk* I knew someone would pick up on that omission. And here I was, trying to keep the sentence manageably short :-P
